More Dentist Visits, Walking, New York

K went to the dentist for the first time yesterday. He got more apprehensive the closer it got to actually going. He finally said "Mommy, I don't want a shot." He was happy after I said he wasn't getting one! He cooperated 100% with the dental hygienist and the dentist. He has no cavities and his teeth were pretty clean. I learned that we're bad parents; who knew you were supposed to be flossing a toddlers teeth??

E took his first steps on Monday while I was in New York. He hasn't repeated the feat, but it won't be long. He's so itching to keep up with the big kids. Today when I dropped them off at day care, K's class was out on the playground so we went outside. E wanted no part of being held, he wanted DOWN to play with the big kids. Unfortunately, the big kids don't watch where they are going, so I didn't put him down. He was MAD!

New York. I'm developing a love/hate relationship with NYC. I went up Monday morning to attend the New York Women in Communications Matrix Awards. That was phenomenal!!! Oh my gawd! To be in the presence of such accomplished, yet humble women was very neat. To give you a glimpse of the caliber of folks involved, here are some of the award winners and the folks they asked to present the award to them:

• Linda Greenhouse (has covered the Supreme Court for 40 years for The New York Times), presented by Arthur Sulzberger, Jr (4th generation Sulzberger to run The New York Times).
• Ruth Reichl (Editor-in-Chief of Gourmet magazine), presented by Wolfgang Puck
• Robin Roberts (Co-Anchor of Good Morning America), presented by Diane Sawyer
• Anna Deavere Smith (playwright, actor, educator), presented by Bill Irwin (actor, Mr. Noodle on Sesame Street for those with kids)
• Anne Sweeney (President of the Disney-ABC Television Group), presented by Bob Woodruff (ABC News Correspondent)
• Diane Von Furstenberg, presented by Christiane Amanpour (Chief International Correspondent, CNN)
• Joannie Danielides (PR Executive who has worked with Bill Blass, Random House, and Ronzoni among others), presented by Donna Hanover (Co-host, WOR's The Morning Show, and former first lady of New York)
• Susan Gianinno (Chairman and CEO of Publicis, USA an advertising firm), presented by Maurice Levy (Chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe)

Dentist Visit, Child Care, and Three Year Olds

Woo hoo!!  No cavities!  The dentist demon is slayed for another 6 months.

I've been looking around at other day cares in town, to see what our options are.  Maybe that should be what our option is.  Sigh.  Can you say "Wait List"?  Wait lists a mile long.  There's nothing wrong with our current day care; we actually like it a lot.  But if something were to happen to my job, we'd have to move them since it's a company sponsored day care.  It's pretty frustrating when you call 50+ places and almost all of them pretty much laugh at the suggestion that they might have openings for 2 kiddos.  The ones that do aren't exactly where I'd really want the kids.  Some have atrocious inspection reports.  One about made me lose my dinner the other night with the repeated "insect and rodent infestation" reports.  UGH!  If you want to make good money, come open a clean, engaging child development center in Atlanta.

I love my three year old.  I do.  But sometimes, wow, I want to run away.  This weekend he pushed every button we both had, numerous times, stomped on them.  I don't know what was up, he cried at the drop of a hat, couldn't make up his mind about anything (I want peanut butter and jelly, NOOOOOO no peanut butter, WAHHHH where's my peanut butter you ate my peanut butter, I want just jelly NOOOO peanut butter, rinse repeat).  Terrible Twos?  Make the threes look tame.  Thankfully, my precious child has returned and has been a joy to be around.  He's so much fun to watch grow.

The 10 month old is now pulling up and cruising around.  There's no slowing him down.  Where his brother was content to crawl a little bit here and there, E likes to explore whatever floor he's on.  Floor as in first floor or second floor of the house.  I expect he'll be standing on his own and walking very soon now.  He's definitely going to be more daring than his older brother.  I look forward to see what he becomes.
